After decades of unchanged condition, the physiotherapy and rehabilitation department of AGEL Zvolen Hospital will undergo a comprehensive reconstruction at the end of 2023. It lasted more than half a year and besides the renovated premises it will also provide patients with a separate reception. The hospital invested 800 thousand Euros from its own resources, and also moved the physiotherapy and rehabilitation department from the AGEL Zvolen II Polyclinic to the new premises.

Since 2010, AGEL Zvolen Hospital has been operated by AGEL SK a.s., during which time the physiotherapy-rehabilitation department has undergone minor changes. However, decades of activity required a major renovation intervention. The need for a complete renovation of the department was also supported by the fact that from 1 July 2023 the former Railway Polyclinic at ul. J. Jiskru 8 in Zvolen, which had a separate physiotherapy and rehabilitation department. In order to ensure optimal operation, better substitutability of staff and use of instrumentation, these departments will be merged in the renovated premises. Renovation work has been underway since mid-November 2023, with the department starting to operate again in the renovated premises from 3 June 2024. “We started the renovation of the physiotherapy and rehabilitation department in mid-November 2023 and our vision was to offer patients a modern workplace with its own reception, to use the capacity efficiently and to create a closed waiting area for patients. We have renovated the premises aesthetically, but at the same time we have functionally expanded them to be able to provide comfort not only to rehabilitation patients, but also to the staff after the merger of the departments after the relocation from the AGEL Zvolen II Polyclinic,” explains the director of the hospital Ing. Ľudmila Veselá, MBA. In the past, the ward consisted of a central corridor with separate departments. After the reconstruction, it was replaced by a more open model, which is managed by a modern reception desk and complemented by a comfortable waiting room for patients.

“After the merger with the physiotherapy-rehabilitation department from the AGEL Zvolen II Polyclinic, we will bring a comprehensive portfolio of services to patients conveniently in one place. We also work closely with the hospital’s departments in rehabilitation, whether we are talking about the nursing home and rehabilitation of elderly patients, or, for example, the gynaecology and obstetrics department and post-natal rehabilitation. From 2023 onwards, it also provides rehabilitation for patients after permanent endoprosthesis implantation from the time the patient is in bed, including Saturdays,” says Mgr. Kamil Gregáň, head physiotherapist of the physiotherapy and rehabilitation department of AGEL Zvolen Hospital. The department also cooperates closely with the Centre for Parkinsonism and Extrapyramidal Disorders and has also resumed Vojta method exercises for children. For self-payers, it offers classical massages without a doctor’s indication. Patients can make an appointment for rehabilitation and treatments at the new reception desk from 3 June and by phone on 045/ 5201 23. The reconstruction of the physiotherapy and rehabilitation department is another of the projects that are taking the health care provided at the hospital in Volen to a higher level. The Zvolen hospital has been approaching the renovation of individual buildings and departments for a long time. During the past year, in addition to the reconstruction of the maternity ward and the physiotherapy and rehabilitation ward, it has also been preparing the area for the construction of the inpatient part of the surgical pavilion, which is co-financed with EUR 33 million from the Recovery and Resilience Plan.
