When am I entitled to child benefit?

You are entitled to the allowance as long as your child is dependent – i.e. until he or she has completed compulsory schoolinguntil he or she has completed his or her studies (if he or she continues to study after the end of compulsory schooling), or for children with disabilities, up to the age of 25.

Child benefit can be received by:

  • The child’s parent,
  • The person to whom the child has been entrusted by the court,
  • Dependent child of full age (if he/she has no parents, has entered into marriage or has a modified parental maintenance obligation),
  • Minor parent, if granted parental rights and responsibilities.

The condition is care for the child and permanent residence in the Slovak Republic.

Attention!

If more than one person is entitled to the allowance, only one of them can receive it.

In the case of divorced parents with alternate custody is the payment of the allowance is a matter of written agreement between the parents – they may receive it in alternation, for example according to the proportion in which the children are in the care of each parent.

Attention!

You are not entitled to the benefit if you do not live in the EU, EEA or Switzerland.
