Need help with activities outside the home? If you have trouble getting around town, shopping and preparing meals, or need help with pre-reading, social services outside the home can help.

Canteen, laundry and hygiene centre

It provides basic services for hygiene and food maintenance, including washing clothes and providing hot meals for those who have difficulty preparing them.

When am I entitled to these services?

Canteens, laundries and professional hygiene centres are provided for all those who need their help. Mainly:

  • pensioners after retirement age,
  • people with adverse health conditions,
  • severely disabled.

How do I start using these services?

If you are interested in any of these services, you must contact the city/municipality where you live. You will fill in a social service application form and the municipality will either start providing services directly or direct you to the right provider.

You will need to enclose with your application a certificate of income for the current calendar year and a doctor’s statement about your health.

How much do these services cost?

The provision of these services is partly paid for by the state, but you will have to pay a certain amount for each provision. You can find out the exact amounts for each service at the municipal office.

Transport service

When do I qualify for a transport service?

They can use the transport service:

  • persons with severe disabilities who need individual transport by private motor vehicle,
  • you have an adverse health condition, limited mobility on flat surfaces or stairs, or impaired orientation.

Referral to the transport service must be proven by an assessment issued by the competent Labour, Social Affairs and Family Office on the basis of a medical assessment.

How do I start using a transport service?

If you are interested in a transport service, you must contact the city/municipality where you live. After checking the certificate of need for transportation service, you have the right to call the transportation service for a transfer:

  • to a medical facility,
  • to a social facility,
  • to public institutions (city hall, etc.),
  • for a cultural event,
  • on the train,
  • for other occasions.

Shuttle services usually operate only during designated days and hours. Therefore, it is a good idea to book the transport service by phone in advance and check the availability of the vehicle.

How much does the shipping service cost?

The price of the transport service may vary from municipality to municipality.

In most cases, you will pay a flat fee for using the service, and an additional price for each kilometre or hour you wait.

Guide service and pre-reading service

provides accompaniment to medical appointments, official business, to and from school, to and from work, and for leisure activities. The pre-reading service provides pre-reading when dealing with official business, personal or official correspondence, and also when shopping.

When am I entitled to a parade/reading?

Persons entitled to these services are:

  • blind, or practically blind;
  • with intellectual disabilities.

Guiding and pre-reading services are not provided to persons:

  • providing a cash allowance for personal assistance;
  • who are already provided with accompaniment and pre-reading as part of the care service.

How to start using the guide and pre-reader service?

If you are interested in these services, you must contact the city/municipality where you live.

Your request will be dealt with individually and you will be informed of the conditions and times for these services.

How much does the guide and pre-reader service cost?

The price of services may vary from municipality to municipality.

Each service has its own set price, which you can find out at the municipal/municipal office or at the social services facility.

Interpreting service

Interpreting service is there for people with hearing impairment and hearing loss. It provides sign language interpreting, articulatory interpreting (for people who can lip read) or tactile interpreting (interpreting by touching the deafblind person’s hand). The interpreting service is free of charge.

When am I entitled to interpretation?

Persons entitled to these services are:

  • Deaf;
  • bilaterally deaf,
  • deafblind or with other combinations of sensory impairments that require a specific communication system

How do I start using an interpreting service?

If you are interested in these services, you must contact your local authority (LAC)where you are permanently resident. The authority will deal with your application individually and inform you of the conditions and times for providing these services.
