The Zvolen hospital has already included shock wave therapy in its offer of treatments. This is particularly beneficial for patients suffering from musculoskeletal pain or struggling with inflammation. The treatment can be indicated by a specialist, but patients can also make an appointment on their own initiative.

“The shock wave immediately relieves muscle tension, allows the gradual dissolution of calcified fibroblasts, promotes collagen production and thus has an analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect. It has a beneficial effect on neurological diseases and also helps to heal hypertrophic scars, which are basically thickened and reddened scars prone to itching and soreness,” explains Mgr. Katarína Liptáková, head nurse of the emergency room of AGEL Zvolen Hospital. The shock wave delivers a tremendous amount of energy to the connective, muscular or bone tissue in a subacute or chronic state, which starts or supports the regeneration processes already underway. Shockwave treatment takes approximately 10 minutes and can be slightly uncomfortable depending on the extent of tissue damage and the area being treated. It is recommended to have 10 treatments spaced a minimum of 72 hours and a maximum of 7 days apart. The treatment itself can therefore take up to 10 weeks. “The effect can be immediate, but usually occurs several weeks after the end of the therapy, depending on the extent of tissue damage,” adds Mgr. Liptáková. Shock wave helps patients especially with pain and inflammation. It is most often sought after by those suffering from musculoskeletal pain, muscle injuries and various other types of pain.

“Shock wave can help very effectively with plantar fasciitis (note: foot pain), various calcifications, carpal tunnel. High success rates have also been demonstrated for back pain, frozen shoulder, heel spurs, tennis or golf elbow and various types of muscle injuries,” appoints the head nurse from the emergency room in Volen. Whether the shock wave therapy is indicated by a specialist or patients want to order it on their own initiative, they can do so at the reception of the emergency room in the surgical pavilion of the AGEL Zvolen Hospital. Currently, due to the reconstruction of the physiotherapy and rehabilitation department, the shock wave clinic is located in the neurological outpatient clinic of the emergency reception on the ground floor of the surgical pavilion. Patients can make an appointment either in person at the reception desk of the Emergency Reception, which operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, or by phone on 045 5201 444 between 07:00 and 15:30. The price of one shock wave treatment is € 20,00, if the patient makes an appointment directly for 10 sessions, the price of the therapy is € 160,00.
